Expanding Energy-Efficiency Nonresidential Programs
Central Electric
Cooperative is expanding conservation and energy-efficiency programs for
commercial, industrial and agricultural members this year.
The expansion follows the completion of a highly successful commercial
lighting pilot project last summer. The commercial lighting program,
funded by BPA, offered non-residential members cash rebates, better
lighting and lower electric bills - and was an effective way to expose
CEC's commercial accounts to the effectiveness of energy-efficient
lighting.
This year, CEC launched two additional energy initiatives with BPA
support. "Save Water, Save Energy," is an irrigation efficiency
program for agricultural members provided through a community-based
nonprofit organization, Wy'East Resource Conservation & Development.
The "Energy Smart Industrial Program" is also implemented by
CEC through a third-party service provider, Cascade Energy Engineering.
"These BPA programs, managed by CEC and implemented by organizations
that act as an extension of CEC, provide our nonresidential members with
important services, including energy analyses, project development,
proposal writing, presentations and quality assurance," said Vern
Rice, CEC's Energy Services supervisor.

Cooperative, Inc. President and CEO, Dave Markham, talked about CEC's
long-time avian protection plan and the co-op's commitment to preventing
injury or electrocution of all birds. In June, Markham provided members
with tips from the state forestry department on ways to prepare for wildfires.
